We know that the three theological virtues are FAITH, HOPE and LOVE (the highest form of charity).  This was "seen" and given to the Church through the great philosophical lens of Saint Thomas Aquinas (13th Century), the "Angelic Doctor".  Pope Benedict clearly wanted all the world to know these three virtues well in an ever complicated world, so that we may strive for brotherly love and peace as we eagerly await the return of the Messiah.
